CHROMOSOMAL MUTATIONS:
Chromosomal mutations are those that affect to the structure and organization of the chromosomes of organisms. Such mutations are usually responsible, in large measure, the reproductive isolation of the species. They can be of two types: structural (changes in morphology or organization of chromosomes without changing their number) and numerical.
There are four types of chromosomal mutations regarding the internal structure:
-Duplication: appears to repeat a portion of chromosome on the same chromosome. Increase the amount of genetic material.
-Deletion: Is that a fragment of chromosome loss. If this fragment has many genes, the consequences will be very serious.
-Inversion: A fragment of chromosome separates and joins again changing its meaning. If no change is included centromere is called pericentric, if not, paracentric.
-Translocation: Is a change in position of a segment of a chromosome. In no counterparts chromosomes called reciprocal translocation and if the change of location is in the same chromosome rearrangement.
